Torna Fort Trek

The mighty Torna Fort is of great historic significance as it the first fort captured by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj
at the age of 16.

Of the many forts that surround Pune, Torna is one of the trekkers favorite destinations. This magnificent fort attracts adventure lovers all through the year. But to witness this place in all its glory visit it specially in the monsoons when the whole fort is dressed in a carpet of bright green foliage and is home to a number of beautiful streams and splendid waterfalls.

Torna fort is in Bhor Taluka of Pune District. It is 215 kms and 55 kms away from Mumbai and Pune respectively.

The base village of Torna Fort is Velhe.

The trek to Torna is a mixture of steep climbs and plateaus.

The Government has taken keen interest in preserving the well-established forts thus, railing and stairs are formed to help the visitors reach safely. One will also come across waterfall before reaching the top (During Monsoon).

The fort has many Doors and Plateau. BudhlaMachi and ZunjarMachi are the two renowned plateaus at Torna Fort. Also, the top has many water cisterns and doors. Sunrise view from BudhlaMachi and Sunset view from ZunjarMachi are the most attractive thing trekkers crave for.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

Food First
Freshen up and fill your stomach with freshly cooked breakfast by the local villagers.

Torna Fort, here we come
We will begin the trek to Torna Fort by 6 am. Follow the Jungle trail till the top enjoying the views of Gunjavne Dam and the ridge that goes to Rajgad. The trek will be of around 3 1/2 hours.

Yay, we are here
We will reach the top of the fort around 9:30 am. Relax at the Mengai Temple. Explore the fort and dont forget to take ample group photos and safe selfies.

Lovely Rural Lunch
We will return to Mengai temple around 11:30 am. Relax and freshen up to feast on the local delicacies cooked by villagers. We will start the descend around 12:30 pm.

Wow, What an Amazing Experience

We will reach the base village around 3:30 pm.

Things To Carry:

  • At least 2 litres of Drinking Water
  • Extra clothes and raincoat
  • Photo ID card
  • Good Trekking or Sport shoes (Compulsory)
  • Some ready to eat food (plum cakes, biscuits)
  • Electral/Tang powder/Glucose-D/salt
  • Cap, Camera, Mobiles Phones, Socks, Extra pair of clothes ( if required)
  • Any personal medicine

  • In Mountains & Jungles, smoking attracts honeybees and one has to face dangerous “honeybee attack” where survival of the person is difficult, hence smoking is strictly prohibited.
  • Drinking Alcohol is strictly prohibited.
  • Leader’s Decision will be Final and Binding.

Rajgad to Torna Fort Trek

Rajgad to Torna Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in the Sahyadri Range. Rajgad is in Bhor Taluka of Pune District. The base village of Rajgad is Gunjavne which is 205 km and 60 km away from Mumbai & Pune respectively. The trek to Rajgad is easy from the base village. Occasional steep climbs and picturesque surroundings make it a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

The trek to Torna from Rajgad is through ridges of around 7 hills offering windy experience throughout the trek. It also provides the views of the deep valleys which may be unnerving. The total distance from Rajgad to Torna is around 12 km which takes around 6 8 hours of trekking. Thus, the Endurance required for this trek is high.

Rajgad was and will be well known as the Capital of the Maratha Empire before Raigad came into existence. Torna is also famous as it was the first for the Great Shivaji Maharaj conquered. Thus, visiting these 2 forts is also of Historic Importance.

Itinerary:

Day 1:

Hello, Pune People

Meet us at 9 am to proceed to the base village of Rajgad Fort.

Fun Introduction and Start the Trek
We will reach Gunjavne Village around 11:30 am. After freshening and a fun introduction round, we will start the trek to Rajgad fort.

Rajgad The Residence of the Great Maratha Warrior
We will reach Rajgad Fort around 2:30 pm. Relax at Padmavati Temple. Freshen up and enjoy the feast of Delicious Lunch at Padmavati Temple.

Explore the Mighty Rajgad Fort
Around 3:30 pm we will proceed to Bale Killa and take darshan of the Samadhi of Soyra Bai, First wife of
Shri Shivaji Maharaj.

Padmavati Temple, Fun Games & Rural Dinner
Head back to Padmavati Temple around 5:30 pm. Relax for a while and enjoy the fun games of Antakshari, Dumb Charades, and MisMatch. Around 8:30 pm we will fill our stomach with delicious dinner. Sleep early as we will
have a big day tomorrow.

Day 2

Good Morning Folks
Wake up around 5 am. Freshen up and head to Torna Fort around 6 am through SanjivaniMachi.

Delicious Breakfast
Around 7:30 am, we will take a break to enjoy the packed breakfast. Eat sufficiently but not in excess as it may cause trouble while trekking.

Torna Fort
After trekking for a while and walking on the ridges of the hills, we will reach Torna Fort through Bhagat Darwaza around 1 pm. Relax for a while, applaud for the effort you put in to reach here.

Lovely Rural Lunch
Revitalize your body and mind by enjoying the lunch of freshly cooked vegetarian dishes. We will start the descend around 2:30 pm.

What an Amazing Experience
We will head back to the base village of Torna Fort Velhe around 2:30 pm. Don’t forget to bid Adieu to this range trek before capturing the ending moments of the trek. We will reach Base village around 5 pm.
